Where the kitchen is the beating heart of the house

Gerrit van de Veenstraat Amsterdam – Kitchen

About this project

The kitchen is the real heart and soul of many homes. To make sure every guest or family member feels comfortable and invited we’ve chosen to use warm and natural colors for the entire design plan.

We’ve made this kitchen a cozy and inviting space, where the dining table’s directly next to the kitchen island. This placement makes sure the chef is always connected to his guests, friends or family. The ten person dining table consists of a steel frame and a vintage oak table top giving it a nice blend between a natural and industrial feel.

The kitchen is much more than just a kitchen. It is a living space. Thus it can be used for a quick breakfast, a cup of coffee, an evening entertaining friends over dinner, or just a lazy Sunday brunch together with your partner.

A nice small detail in the design is the casing of the the extractor hood, it has the same finish as was used on the kitchen cabinets, light green powder coated steel.

The kitchen is equipped with the best Neff appliances such as a fitted refrigerator, freezer, combi steam oven and a Neff gas hob. The kitchen island is also made of powder coated steel and on top of this lays an all white Arabescato marble countertop. The countertop includes our signature Eginstill wooden chopping board made from vintage oak.

Cooking in regal timelessness

About this project

This project was all about bending time. We were asked to transform the former parlour of an eminent mansion into a kitchen, while safeguarding its historical essence.

The island is entirely created out of Nero Marquina marble. The material is used for the countertop, the drawers and also the cabinets to make the island stand out as one solid piece of this marvellous white-nerved marble. The gas burners are fitted directly into the countertop to break the lines of the material as little as possible. The robust island with the clean-cut elements provides a strong look within this elegant room.

To amplify the contrast with the island and light grey walls we gave the cabinets a deep dark colour and used rustic blue steel for the whole niche including the shelves. The kitchen is equipped with the best Gagganau appliances, all appliances are made to disappear into the walls.

In the middle of the kitchen counter we designed a hidden and sunken champagne cooler, which can be brought out to celebrate all special moments in life. The sink is custom-made with a polished olivewood cutting board on top to make it look like it is one with the island.

The result is a timeless space where the old and new meet seamlessly and cooking will be a joy for centuries to come.
